CUSTOMER REVIEWS
"I have had Arena Moist in my arena for the past 10 years. I give over 60 lessons per week and none of my riders know what it means to ride in dust. I have white brick walls and they stay clean all year long thanks to Arena Moist."

Wayne Ackerer
The Horse Center

"I travel all over the US managing the footing for some of the top Hunter Jumper shows. One of my top priorities is maintaining the proper moisture content. When the footing becomes dry and dusty, I know that it's slick and dangerous and there is nothing worse than seeing a horse go down!"

Mike Rheinheimer
Professional Show Manager
Andrews Equestrian School

"We have been thrilled with our purchase of Arena Moist. Since we had applied it to our footing it has cut our watering schedule down and completely cut out our dust problem. It's so much nicer now riding in our arena."

Synthetic Acrylic Copolymer
  • Arena Moist™ is a safe, non-toxic chemical that will not negatively affect horses or riders.
Holds up to 400 times its size in water.
  • Because Arena Moist™ holds so much moisture, and releases it as your footing becomes dry, it will cut your watering schedule by 50%.
  • Arena Moist™ will help control your dust problems due to consistent moisture.
  • Arena Moist™ stores and releases moisture at ALL levels of your footing. Therefore, eliminating slipping and inconsistency in the moisture content.
  • Arena Moist™ will work in any type of footing that requires moisture. i.e.: mulch, shavings, dirt and sand.
Contracts and expand in the soil as it takes in and then releases moisture.
  • Because Arena Moist™ expands and contracts, it improves the riding surface of the arena by reducing soil compaction.
Soft and plyable when water is absorbed.
  • Because Arena Moist™ is soft and plyable, it creates a cushion and conditioning texture to your footing.
Lasts 3-5 years.
  • Because Arena Moist™ last 3-5 years it has proven to be a very cost effective moisture management and conditioning product.
  • Compared to adding rubber or synthetic materials to your arena, Arena Moist™ is very cost effective.
What is Arena Moist™?

A non-toxic co-polymer. It is a by-product of soft contact lenses and similar to the product used in baby diapers.
How does it work?
Arena Moist™ absorbs up to 400 times its size in water and stores it in all levels of the soil. The water is then released back into the soil as it dries out.
What kind of footing will it work in?

Arena Moist™ will work in any type of footing that requires moisture, i.e.: mulch, shavings, dirt and sand.
Why should I use Arena Moist™?
Anyone who wants to improve the condition of their footing and eliminate dust problems in their arenas needs Arena Moist™ . Without it, the water goes from the top to the bottom of the footing when you water. The top dries out again and the bottom stays slick. Arena Moist™ keeps the moisture suspended in all the levels of the soil.
Will it bother my children or animals?
Arena Moist™ is a non-harmful, non-chemical-non-toxic product.
How often do I water? Using the product will reduce water usage by 50%or more. If you are watering in your arena every other day, this will cut your frequency to once every 10 days or more. A good dragging maintenance program helps to keep the surface from drying out too fast.
Does it freeze? If the soil freezes, Arena Moist™ will freeze with it, but can be ridden on with no problems. The footing also takes longer to freeze than normal with the product in it.
Is Arena Moist™ slippery? NO, because the Arena Moist™ is mixed in the footing at all levels and it adheres to each granule.
How do I apply it? Apply with a seed type spreader. Spread the product at a rate of 12 pounds per 1000 sq. ft. Then drag it under the soil and soak the arena heavily. It can be ridden on at any time after the standing water is absorbed. In two days repeat the watering to insure the polymer is fully hydrated.
Can I mix Arena Moist™ with calcium chloride? NO! Arena Moist™ cannot be used with any chemicals such as salt brine, oil or others because the harmful chemicals break down the soil as well as the Arena Moist™.
Spray Applications: Arena Moist™:
Currently there are several spray type dust control products. Most of them have not been on the market long enough to know how well they actually work.

Arena Moist™ has been tested and proven for over 15 years. Without a proven record like this its hard to actually guarantee whether a product will work or not.
The one thing they do have in common is that they only have one purpose and that is to control dust.
Arena Moist™ has more than just one purpose. Not only does it serve as a dust control product, but its texture creates a soft cushioning to the footing. For those who have considered adding rubber or synthetic material to create a cushioning to their footing, Arena Moist™ is much more cost effective.
Be careful to note how often the product has to be applied. Although the initial cost may sound cheaper, in the long run it may prove to be more costly.

Arena Moist™ will last at least 3-5 years. It actually will last almost indefinitely—as long as your footing is not broken down to the point where it can't retain moisture. There is no need for adding more every year.
Although they promote that you don't have to water, keep in mind that not adding water creates a very slick texture to the footing. The proper moisture content creates a heavy and "gripping" type texture that allows your horse to make quick moves and stop suddenly without slipping.
As well as holding and releasing moisture as needed, Arena Moist™ will absorb excess water and dry out an arena much faster than without it. This feature makes it great for outdoor rings and round pens.
Some of these spray on products will actually turn you footing different colors.
Arenas footing retains its natural color.
Rubber or Synthetic Materials: Arena Moist™:
Rubber and most synthetic material will break down and become airborne. This makes for an unhealthy riding environment. Arena Moist™ is non toxic and will not break down and become airborne.
Most arenas that have rubber installed eventually have black walls and black dust over their entire arena.
Arena Moist™ is transparent and mixes into your footing invisibly.
Besides the health issues, most of these products feel unnatural to a horse. A horse needs to be trained on the same type of footing that it is going to be shown on, not something that feels unnatural. Arena Moist™ creates a conditioning and softness that feels natural to the horse.
Finally, the cost of adding rubber or synthetic materials is quite costly. For the results they produce, these products are hardly worth the effort. Compared to adding rubber or synthetic material to an arena, Arena Moist™ is quite affordable.

INDOOR ARENA:

Type of Soil: Depth: Amount per 1,000 sq. ft.:
Sand Minimum 3" 12 pounds
Sand 3 – 4" 12 – 14 pounds
Sand 4 – 6" 15 pounds
Heavy Clay 3" 14 pounds
Heavy Clay 4" 14 pounds
Heavy Clay 4 – 6" 6" 16 pounds

OUTDOOR ARENA:

Type of Soil: Depth: Amount per 1,000 sq. ft.:
Sand Minimum 3" 12 pounds
Sand 4 – 5" 12 – 14 pounds
Sand 6 – 8" 16 pounds
Heavy Clay Minimum 3" 14 pounds
Heavy Clay 4 – 5" 14 – 15 pounds
Heavy Clay 6 – 8" 17 pounds

Prior to any application the arena soil should be broken up to at least 3-4 inches in depth. If wood chips and shavings are present, use the application rate for sand.
  1. Broadcast the polymer with a spreader or drop seeder for even disbursement. To ensure even disbursement, plot out 1000 square feet (25'x40') or any measurement to equal 1000 square feet).
  2. Set the spreader or drop seeder opening at the smallest setting.
  3. Fill the seeder or spreader with the appropriate amount for 1000 square feet.
  4. Broadcast the polymer in the plot. If too much polymer is left in the hopper after the first pass, make proper adjustments to ensure all product is dispersed.
  5. Work the polymer into the arena at the desired depth using a TR3™ Rake, rototiller, harrow or disk.
  6. If a harrow is used, the spacing between the tines should be a minimum of six inches.
  7. If necessary, remove every other tine.
  8. Note: Apply up to two pounds more of the Arena Moist per 1000 square feet where heavy traffic occurs in the arena (outer ring of the arena, etc.).
  9. Water liberally; water routine should be normal for five to seven days. Water rates and reductions can then be established.
NOTE: Arena Moist must be worked into the arena at the above depths to be effective. If left on the surface, UV light will break the polymer down. Salt content of the water and the pH of the arena affect the absorption capacity of the polymer. If the pH of the arena soil is above 8.0 or if calcium chloride has been recently applied, contact the factory for specific application rates.
